Finished Works

Piano Fantasy No. 1 (Buy the Sheet Music @ Lulu.com!)

This Piano Fantasy was written when I was 15.  I would spend a good portion of my lunch break during 9th grade writing a little bit more every day and it was finished before the end of the school year.

Piano Fantasy No. 2 (Buy the Sheet Music @ Lulu.com!)
Live Performance!

Written my Sophomore year in college and premiered with my Viola Sonata (See my Chamber Works Section) and was performed by a young lady, Alyssa Bell, who became a great friend.  Written in more of a classical style, this was my exploration of what I could do with some of the classical elements I had been studying.

Piano Sonata in A-flat Major (Buy the Sheet Music @ Lulu.com!)

Another attempt at a Sonata Cycle and Sonata-Allegro Form, this piano sonata was meant to sound classical in nature.  I also wanted those unique non-harmonic tones that Mozart uses in a lot of his pieces.  While the effect isn't quite the same as Mozart, I was pretty pleased with the results of this sonata.

Works to Be Completed

Piano Sonata in A Minor
1st Movement
Live Performance!

This Sonata was originally going to be another Fantasy, but as I worked on it, I realized how well it could fit into Sonata-Allegro form.  Originally I intended in to be much shorter.  However, as my model for this was Beethoven's piano works (and also some of his 9th Symphony), it became much longer.  It's not a full Sonata-Allegro form, as the end does not repeat the 2nd theme.  When I got to the recapitulation, I felt it would be more appropriate to finish with the first theme and leave out the second.

As an interesting bit of trivia, the premier performance I have above has Jordan Roper as the pianist.  He's a great friend and fellow composer who happens to be married to Hailey, another great friend and fellow violist.  Hailey was in my section when I was section leader in University Orchestra before I had to quit the position for health reasons.  Jordan was also the photographer at my wife, Brooke, and my wedding!
