Toru Takemitsu:
A 20th Century Japanese composer, Toru Takemitsu was largely self-taught. He was influenced by John Cage. At first, this was evident in his experiments in chance music. However, Cage's main influence on Takemitsu was in Cage's Zen Buddhist influences, which caused Takemitsu to use more Japanese cultural elements in his music.
